Athol indoor track finds places in state meet

ATHOL — On February 13, the Athol varisty boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams found out their seeds for today’s Division 5 state indoor track meet, as the team will send a total of 11 student athletes to the meet. The state meet will be held today at 4:30 p.m. at the Reggie Lewis Center.

“This is the largest group I have taken to states,” said Athol coach Dave St. Jean. “A real testament to the hard work they have put in.”

For the girls, Sadey Lehtomaki, Emily England, Grace Dufour and Crista Jillson make up the team’s 4x200 meter relay team that were seeded 28th. Shelby Mailloux, England, Dufour and Jillson make up the team’s 4x400 meter relay team and were seeded 19th.

For the boys’, Kris Selanis will throw from the second seed in the shot put. Mason Barrieau will run out of the ninth seed in the 55-meter hurdles and the fifth seed in the 600-meter run. Chase Michaud will run out of the 13th seed in the 600-meter run, while James Laford will run out of the 21st seed in the 300-meter run. Dennis St. Jean will run out of the 14th seed in the 1,000-meter run and Gabe Roberts will be out of the 20th seed in the long jump. Laford, Roberts, Michaud and Barrieau make up the team’s 4x200 meter relay team and will run out of the fifth seed. St. Jean, Roberts, Laford and Michaud make up the team’s 4x400 meter relay team and will run out of the 15th seed.

The Division 5 state meet hosts approximately 90 schools. The event hosts approximately 700 individual student athletes and approximately another 140 relay teams. Each student participating had to qualify for the state meet.
