Athol Salvation Army accepting holiday applicationsATHOL — The Athol Salvation Army is taking applications for Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance. Signup dates are the following
■Monday, Oct. 2, 2-5 p.m.
■Tuesday, Oct. 3, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
■Wednesday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
■Thursday, Oct. 5, 2-4 p.m.
■Friday, Oct. 6, make-up day, 9 a.m.-noon
Applicants will need the following—valid identification, health card, or birth certificate for all children in the home, proof of address (a utility bill will suffice). Forms will be copied for verification purposes.
No applications will be taken over the phone. Gift cards for holiday meals will only be given to households with one or two people. Grandparents who wish to have gifts for their grandchildren will be put on a list to be called after distribution.
Petersham Curling Club’s Golf and Curl BiathlonPETERSHAM — The Petersham Curling Club is opening its season with the annual Golf and Curl Biathlon on Oct. 14. The club also has its first Learn-to-Curl Clinic on Friday, Oct. 27. The club has a Youth Program that runs Saturday mornings beginning Nov. 4. All information can be found at petershamcurling.org.
Friends of the Council on Aging meetingATHOL — The Friends of the Athol Council on Aging will hold its quarterly meeting on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 1 p.m. in the Athol Senior Center. Come and find out the results of summer fundraising. Refreshments will be served. Members are urged to attend and guests are welcome.
Turkey supper at Starrett Memorial United Methodist ChurchATHOL — The parishioners of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island St. in Athol invite the community to their most popular seasonal supper. On Saturday, Oct. 14, at 6 p.m. the church will be a classic roast turkey dinner. This complete, freshly-prepared meal includes oven-roasted turkey, real mashed potatoes, stuffing, a veggie, cranberry sauce, salad, bread, and their famous home-baked pie, all for $12. Reservations are required, will be accepted through Friday, Oct. 13, at noon, and can be made by calling 978-249-9561. Limited take-out and local delivery is available.
Prepared and served by dedicated volunteers, the kitchen is overseen by ServSafe-certified Head Cook Paul Maier Jr. Everyone involved is excited to have Fellowship Hall filled with guests partaking in great food, friendly conversation, and good company.
In addition to in-person dining, a limited number of full dinners (including pie) are available for take-out/pick-up as well as local delivery. Reservations are required for all meals. Take-out meals will be ready for pick-up at 5:45, and guests should use the Marble Street parking lot and backdoor for easy access.
