Pioneer Valley Brass to perform Dec. 11

PETERSHAM — The Orthodox Congregational Church of Petersham will host a free program of traditional and modern Christmas music performed by Pioneer Valley Brass on Sunday, Dec. 11, starting at 4 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the First Universalist Parish of North Dana. The parish, which was forced to leave North Dana around 1930 for the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir, has been sponsoring musical vespers programs to keep the parish’s memory alive. Programs are paid for using a trust fund established by sisters Mary Hale and Catherine Mason and administered by the parish.

Pioneer Valley Brass performs many, but not all, of the parish’s musical programs. The group was founded by Cedric and Jeri Bannister more than 40 years ago and has performed many times throughout the North Quabbin area. Current members are Dick Tandy, Steve Babineau, Dana Tandy, Joe Hoye and Tabitha Greenlees.

The group will also perform at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Greenfield on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 4 p.m.
