ORANGE — Grzesik-Bixby Gymnasium was packed with wrestlers of all ages on Monday, as Mahar Regional School hosted an all-girls tournament for high school grapplers, in addition to the USAW MWA Girls Kick-off Classic that included club teams in the youth ranks all the way down to an 8-and-under category.

The all-girls event, which dates back to 2018, featured over 160 wrestlers from throughout the Northeast, according to Mahar wrestling coach John Speek. The event featured four mats of competition, two in the main high school gymnasium and another pair in the middle school gym.

The high school team title was won by Lowell High School with 61 points, followed by a second-place tie between Keene (N.H.) and Boston Latin Academy (55 points each). Cumberland (R.I.) and Oliver Ames tied for fifth place with 52 points each.

Several Western Massachusetts schools sent participants to the event. Chicopee had the best finish of any WMass school, taking 11th place with 31 points thanks to Nevaeh Santiago’s runner-up finish in the 111-pound weight class.

Franklin Tech used two podium finishes en route to 26th place as a team (18 points). Mia Marigliano finished fourth in the 147-pound weight class for the Eagles, while Jacqueline Churchill was fifth at 215.

Granby’s Imani Letasz placed fifth at 147 pounds to guide the Rams to a 29th place showing (14 points), while Frontier took 31st with 13 points after Jocelyn Antes nabbed fourth overall in the 118-pound bracket.

Ludlow, Holyoke and host Mahar also had wrestlers competing during the all-day event.
