H.S. Roundup: Caleb Murray’s 20 points powers Greenfield boys basketball past Frontier (PHOTOS)

It always seems to be a close game when the Greenfield and Frontier boys basketball teams meet, and Tuesday was no different.
The Green Wave held a 32-27 lead at the half, took a 48-43 lead after three quarters and pulled away in the fourth quarter to earn a 68-59 Hampshire League South victory over the Redhawks at Nichols Gymnasium in Greenfield.
Caleb Murray had the hot hand for Greenfield, finishing with 20 points. Jon Breor tossed in 14 points, Caleb Thomas scored 12 points while Jacob Blanchard and Grayson Thomas each added nine points in the winning effort.
Nico Fasulo put in a game-high 21 points for Frontier. Rowan Modestow scored 17 points, Sasha Dragicevich finished with eight points while Owen Babb scored six points in the loss.
Athol 67, Franklin Tech 33 – A monster scoring spree powered the Bears to a decisive Hampshire League North victory on Tuesday night in Turners Falls.
Athol led 21-6 after one quarter and 40-14 at halftime.
“It took us a few minutes to wake up but we did and went on 25-0 run,” Athol coach Brian Patria said. “Led by Angel Castillo, our captain, we matched their intensity and started to play Athol basketball.”
Castillo led the offense with 23 points in the win. Ben Kearney (11 points) and Ray Castine (10) also scored in double figures for Athol.

Drury 41, Mahar 34 — It was a defensive battle between two top 10 teams in the most recent MIAA Power Rankings in North Adams on Tuesday.
The Senators closed the third quarter on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to 27-25 going into the fourth, but the Blue Devils went on a 9-2 run to open the fourth. Mahar was unable to get back in the game from there, with Drury making its free throws late to earn a Hampshire League South win.

The Mohawk Trail girls alpine ski team had the top three finishers at the fourth PVIAC meet of the season on Tuesday, as Addie Loomis placed first (31.78 seconds), Lydie Pinkham came in second (33.78) and Emmy Sisum took third (33.80) on the giant slalom course at Berkshire East in Charlemont.
Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner came in ninth (34.94) and Mae Hoff took 10th (35.10), giving the Warriors five of the top 10 finishers.
Naomi den Ouden (12th, 36.02), Caroline Makosiej (20th, 37.64), Brooke Koshinsky (21st, 37.81) and Ohia Dellert (23rd, 38.58) rounded out the Mohawk Trail girls in the top 25.
The Mohawk Trail girls weren’t the only team with a winner on Tuesday.
In the boys race, Warrior Weston den Ouden cruised down the slalom course in a time of 40.66 seconds, placing him first on the day.
Three other Mohawk Trail boys finished in the top 10, with Gage Pate naude taking third (45.84), Grayson Bishop coming in fifth (47.55) and Phineas Tuttman taking seventh (48.61).
Ben Zarotny took 21st (55.27) to round out the top 25 finishers for the Warriors.
Turners 36, Holyoke 23 — Connor Glennon won the 100 fly, Liam Bliss won the 500 while Tyler Galenski took first in the 200 free, helping the Thunder knock off the Purple Knights in Turners on Tuesday.
Glennon also took second in the 200 free, Matt Sibley placed third in the 50 free and third in the 100 breast, Bliss earned second in the 50 free while Galenski came away with a second place finish in the 100 free for Turners.
Turners 51, Holyoke 42 — Tristan Bliss won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:16.84, helping the Thunder defeat the Purple Knights on Tuesday.
Madi Liimatainen won the 100 breaststroke and the 50 free, Sophia McComb took first in the 100 back, Sylvie DiBartolomeo placed second in the 500, Rose Fortin took second in the 500 while Avery Heathwaite came in second in the 100 breaststroke.
Pioneer 63, Ware 30 — The Panthers had four players finish in double figures — led by Kyler McClelland with 13 points — to pull away with a Franklin County League South win at Messer Gymnasium on Monday.
Addie Harrington and Hailey Ring both recorded 12 points while Leah Potter tallied 11 points in the win. Natalie Rios scored nine points while Fota N’Diaye added six points for Pioneer.
Franklin Tech 54, Athol 29 — Hannah Gilbert’s 13 points and four steals helped power the Eagles past the Bears at Mallet Gymnasium on Monday in a Franklin County League South contest.
Kyra Goodell scored nine points, Haleigh Benoit tallied seven points and eight rebounds, Cordelia Guerin finished with six points while Lea Chapman scored four points and pulled down nine rebounds for Franklin Tech.
Anna Duquette scored 12 points, Jenna Bonenfant recorded six points while Abby Spooner finished with four points for Athol.
Greenfield 51, Palmer 49 — Amber Bergeron finished with 20 points while Gloria McDonald tossed in 13 points, helping the Green Wave pull off a Franklin County League North win at Nichols Gymnasium on Monday.
Greenfield led 41-34 going into the fourth quarter.
Anna Bucala scored 11 points, Carly Blanchard finished with five points while Niya Strohman had two points in the victory.
