High schools: Athol girls soccer keeps postseason hopes alive

The Athol girls soccer team kept its tournament hopes alive with a 5-1 win over host Pope Francis, Friday.

The Red Raiders (8-9) need a home win against Mahar on Monday to clinch a playoff berth.

Shelby Mailloux and Grace Dufour (two goals, assist) scored in the first half to erase a 1-0 deficit.

Angelica Baptista, Ally Raymond and Lily King scored second-half goals, while Kendall Deleo added an assist for Athol (8-9).

Hailey Wrigley made nine saves.

Girls volleyball

Turners Falls 3, Mahar 1 — The Senators (14-5) missed their chance at their first league championship since 1997, falling 17-25, 28-26, 25-12, 25-12 in Orange.

Jordyn Berry had six kills, Aria Flematti added 17 assists and five aces, and Lauren Henne chipped in with five digs.

Mahar will learn its tournament opponent when seeds are announced on Tuesday.
