MacKenzie Paulin did it at the plate and in the pitching circle, powering the Greenfield softball team to its third win in as many days and a 3-2 rivalry victory over Turners Falls on Saturday afternoon at Vets Field.

Paulin smacked a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning and also went seven innings for Greenfield (6-1), which won its fourth straight game. The sophomore struck out 14 and allowed just two runs on three hits while walking five.

Greenfield managed just two hits against Turners Falls starter Madi Liimatainen, who struck out eight and walked five in a complete game effort. It was the first loss of the season for the Thunder (9-1), which also played for the third time in three days.

Holly Myers and Janelle Massey each had a hit and an RBI for Turners, and Gloria McDonald added a hit and an RBI for Greenfield.

The teams will play again on Tuesday night, when Turners hosts Greenfield at 7 p.m., but the Green Wave first have a huge road test when they play at Hampshire Regional on Monday. 

Baseball

Frontier 3, Ware 1 – Tyler Cusson pitched a gem, and the visiting Redhawks secured an impressive road victory under the lights in Ware on Saturday night.

Cusson went all seven innings, striking out seven and allowing just one hit and one walk. Ware’s lone run came in the bottom of the first inning.

It was the sixth win in a row for Frontier, which improved to 7-1 overall.

Frontier did its damage offensively to support Cusson in the top of the first. The Hawks scored three times, buoyed by Rosco Palmer’s two-run hit and an RBI from Wyatt Edes. Palmer finished 2-for-3 with a double and a triple, as Frontier was held to five hits by Ware ace John Mumper (7ip, 5ks).

Ultimate

The Four Rivers boys ultimate team played two teams from New Jersey on Saturday.

The Otters took down a strong Columbia High School team, 13-8, behind three goals and three assists from Caleb Bird-Richards.

Four Rivers, ranked No. 25 nationally, was edged by 16th-ranked Montclair, 13-10. The Otters shot out to a 4-1 lead and trailed just 7-6 at halftime. Sam Whitney assisted on three goals and scored two others in the game for the Otters, which suffered just the first loss of their season and slipped to 7-1 overall.

Girls tennis

Frontier 4, PV Christian 1 – Jimin Ahn played her first match of the season at No. 3 singles and secured a 6-2, 6-0 win to lift the Redhawks to victory on Saturday.

Thanushi Ratnatuge was a 6-0 6-2 winner at No. 2 singles for Frontier, and the first doubles team of Araceli McCoy and Aylen Shaw snagged a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. The Hawks won second doubles via forfeit.
