H.S. Roundup: Kyle Begos strikes out seven to lift Franklin Tech baseball past Turners (PHOTOS)

Kyle Begos was dealing for the Franklin Tech baseball team in its season opener on Tuesday against Turners. 

Begos went five innings on the hill for the Eagles, striking out seven, allowing just two hits and surrendering no walks. All the while the Franklin Tech bats did their job to help him out, with the Eagles walking away with an 11-1 victory in five-innings over their Bi-County North rival. 

“Starting with a win is a step in the right direction,” Prasol said. “The kids executed and played excellent defense. I can’t say enough about how Kyle threw the ball. He was outstanding. We’ll keep grinding at it.” 

Franklin Tech got on the Thunder early, scoring three runs in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth before putting three runs on the board in the fifth to end the game. 

Alex Sulda led the way at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and RBIs. Ty Sadoski and Gavin Crossman each had two hits and an RBI, Begos helped himself with a pair of hits and RBIs. 

Derek Wissman knocked a single and Deven Sloan had an RBI triple for Turners in the loss.

Frontier 4, Palmer 1 — The Redhawks opened their season by sweeping singles to earn a victory over the Panthers on Tuesday in South Deerfield. 

Sydney Scanlon picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win in No. 1 singles, Maddie Powers won 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 in No. 2 singles while Sam Baker earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles for Frontier. In No. 2 doubles, Rebecca Wallace-West and Thanushi Ratnatunge picked up a 6-1, 6-4 victory for the Redhawks.
