Hannah Gilbert’s play on the softball field has gained her national recognition.

The sophomore has been a big part in Franklin Tech’s 7-1 start to the season with her play in the circle and at the plate.

For her play running from Apr. 17-23 — one in which the Eagles went 4-0 — Gilbert was one of 16 girls from around the country to be nominated for SBLive’s National Girl Athlete of the Week.

In those four games, which included wins over Mahar (24-3), Smith Academy (26-4), Hopkins (11-9) and Pioneer (15-2), Gilbert combined for eight hits at the plate. Four of those were home runs, another a triple and another a double, totaling 12 RBIs in the process.

Gilbert pitched three of those games in the circle, striking out eight against Mahar, allowing just one hit and striking out 17 in a shutout against Lee and recording 10 strikeouts against Hopkins.
