The Greenfield Recreation Department Tennis League came to a conclusion over the weekend, with Steve Pedigree taking first in the Top Spin Division and Tim Prevost taking second. 

Ken Hubbard was the winner of the Valley Division, with Richard Corey taking second.

In the Lob Division, Willy Rose was the winner and Paul Beaulieu took second.

“We had 24 players play,” Andrew Varnon said of the league. “It was another successful season.” 

In other tennis news, the Greenfield doubles tournament began Monday night, with Pedigree and Hubbard defeating Rose and Petru Cojocaru to advance to the finals, where they’ll face Varnon and Daniel Pena-Chadee, tonight.

Youth hockey

FCHA

The Franklin County Hockey Association Midgets Lenois team had its first games of the season over the weekend, dropping both contests. 

Lenois fell to the Capitals, 6-3, on Sunday at Collins-Moylan Rink. Booie Harris had a pair of goals and Sam Knight added a goal himself. 

Derek Lenois, Adam Savoy, Matthew Willhite and Owen Willhite each picked up an assist. 

On Saturday, Lenois lost to Pioneer Valley Grey, 5-3. 

Savoy and Knight scored in the loss, with Lenois, Owen Willhite and Casey Hoffman picking up assists. 

Soccer

Athol JV

The Athol boys JV soccer team fell to South Hadley, 7-1, over the weekend. 

Tony Carbone had the lone goal, which was assisted by Gabe Gois. 

Racing

Monadnock

Ben Byrne of Greenfield picked up his fourth win of the season in the Monadnock’s Sportsman Modified division on Sunday, taking the lead on lap nine and cruising to victory. 

Jake Pulchalski of Whately earned  his 11th win in Young Guns completion with Turners Falls  driver J.D. Stockwell taking third.

Running

Don Maynard 5-miler

The 25th Annual Don Maynard 5 Mile Road Race and 2.5 mile walk is set for Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m.

Monster Dash 5K

The 9th Annual Casual Fun Halloween 5K Run/Walk & Kid Bike is set for Oct. 26 at 9 a.m. beginning at Northfield Town Hall.
