Hiring, promotion announced for bankHometown

Michael Hewitt, president and chief executive officer of bankHometown, has announced the recent hiring of Michelle Moniz as senior vice-president of retail banking. “I am very excited to have Michelle become a member of our senior management team. Her strong leadership experience in Retail Banking will further enhance bankHometown’s position as one of the top performing community banks in New England.”

The bank has a branch in downtown Athol. It’s headquarters are in Oxford.

Moniz’s responsibilities will include planning, organizing, and directing retail banking and branch administration. She will also serve as a liaison to the Marketing Department regarding strategy and execution.

Moniz has a wealth of banking experience which includes her most recent role as a senior vice-president, market manager at Webster Bank in Rhode Island. She was responsible for leading, coaching and managing 15 banking centers throughout Rhode Island and the shoreline of Connecticut. Her market was ranked No. 1 in the company for customer experience.

Prior to Webster, Moniz was with Santander Bank, where she held the position of senior retail district executive, where she managed 14 banking centers. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science from Rhode Island College. Moniz is an active United Way volunteer.

Hewitt also announced the promotion of Christina DiRusso to vice-president of commercial lending.

“Christina provides commercial lending expertise in Northern Worcester County, delivering the right financial solutions to our business clients,” Hewitt said. “She and our Leominster branch team are making a real difference, with the best in personal service as well as their extensive involvement in our local communities.”

DiRusso was hired in January 2014 and is based in the Leominster. She covers the north central market as a commercial lender. She received a Certificate in Commercial Lending from the Massachusetts Banker’s Association in 2012.

Hewitt is active in the BNI Group of Leominster and is a committee member of the North Central Mass Community Development Corp, and currently serves as a board member of Newvue Communities, CDC in Fitchburg.
