Orange Post 172 preparing to flag veterans’ graves

ORANGE — The Orange American Legion Post 172 is preparing to once again place flags on the graves of veterans. Members and participants will meet at the post home on Saturday, May 25 at 9 a.m. and from there, will travel to the South and Central cemeteries to place flags on the graves. Those wishing to help are asked to meet at the American Legion Post home, 40 Daniel Shays Hwy., by 8:45 a.m.

It is the hope of the Post that no veterans graves are missed, but note there are some graves that do not have a veterans’ marking. There is always the chance that a grave will be missed. If this happens, it is asked that the Orange American Legion Home be notified by calling 978-544-6023 to report the name of the veteran and which cemetery the grave is in.

If anyone places a flag on a grave, it will not be removed. Post members tie a string on the flag that tells them not to remove it when all other flags are picked up after Memorial Day.
