Orange Police Log: April 11

9:08 a.m. — Two general burglar alarm activations, West River Street. Found to be accidental. Alarm company called in advising they spoke to the keyholder, who gave proper pass code.

12:08 p.m. — Evidence of a squatter, James Lane. Caller attempting to clean out the residence and the found a mattress with the heat turned up (which was not there yesterday). Reported that some time within the last two days someone broke into the residence through the back sliding doors. The heat had been turned on and things gone through. There was evidence someone was sleeping on a mattress and a purse was located containing some makeup and no ID. Party is requesting extra patrols and some action taken on anyone found on the property.

2:16 p.m. — Suspicious activity, Fairman Road. Caller reports it looks like a tree was struck by a motor vehicle across from his house. No vehicle or debris in the area, no signs of an accident.

4:32 p.m. — Traffic stop on East River Street for operating unregistered motor vehicle. While stopped, operator took off. Pursued into Colonial Acres.  John W. Shepherd, of East River Street, Orange was arrested for an unregistered motor vehicle and failure to stop for police.

5:30 p.m. — Suspicious person, Butterfield Park. Caller advises there were three teenagers at the park attempting to do damage to a swing. They were argumentative with an adult female who was asking them to leave. They were all dressed in black. Left on foot and headed to King Street. Could not locate.

9:02 p.m. — Disturbance, Pleasant Street. Caller requesting an officer to remove arguing subjects. All units responded and spoke with the caller and the involved parties. Female party left the house and the male party agreed to stay inside his room and call it a night. Caller was fine with that and will contact police if it happens again. 

9:49 p.m. — Caller on Pleasant Street requesting officers back to the house because subject is freaking out and threatening to smash things. All units responded and spoke with all the involved parties. Subject is walking to his friend’s house in Athol. All parties advised of options. Peace restored.11:59 p.m. — Motor vehicle violation, Daniel Shays Highway. Verbal warning given for defective plate lights.
