Friday, April 12

5:30-7:30 p.m. — Spaghetti Supper, hosted by the Boys Scout Troop 8 of Athol, at the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut St., Athol. Tickets $5 (under 5 free), at the door. Those bearing proof they are paddling in the canoe race or running in the Big Cheese get $1 off. To reserve a ticket email info and number of tickets to Troop8Athol@hotmail.com.

7:30 p.m. — River Rat Race post positions drawing, Athol Town Hall. Paddlers will learn their starting position, receive the numbers to be affixed to their canoes, and their official Rat Race t-shirts.

7:30 p.m. — “Godspell” at the Barre Players Theater, 64 Common St., Barre. Directed by John-Michael Tebelak; music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. April 13 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 7, 14, at 2 p.m. Admission $20; seniors and children $15. 978-355-2096.

Saturday, April 13

9:30 a.m. — 10th annual Big Cheese 5K Road Race, Athol. Starting line is on School Street, proceeds down Main Street.

9:35 a.m. — Annual River Rat Parade, down Main Street, Athol to Lord Pond Plaza. Steps off along School Street following the last of the Big Cheese racers/walkers.

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Photographer Ron Rosenstock will present a daylong workshop, “From Capture to Display,” at the Petersham Art Center, 8 North St., Petersham. Participants will learn how to prepare photos for exhibit. More info: 978-724-3415.

2-5 p.m. — Live Music with the Ashboys at the Wheelerville Community Club. Public is welcome.

5 p.m. — Presentation of River Rat Race Trophies and Awards at the Orange River Front Park (boat launch area), East River Street, Orange.

7:30 p.m. — Wendell Full Moon Coffee House to Benefit Village Neighbors. Concert with folk musician Pamela Means, bake sale and raffle.  $6-15 suggested. At the old town hall, center of Wendell.

10 a.m. — ProAM canoe races, starting at the Orange River Front Park, East River Street, Orange.

2:30 p.m. — Springfield Symphony Orchestra chamber music series finale, Twin Hills Country Club, 700 Wolf Swamp Rd., Longmeadow. Featuring the Brass Quintet. Doors open at 1:30 for canapés. Tickets: 413-733-2291.
