GARDNER — On Saturday, Oct. 26 at 9 a.m., Heywood Hospital will host its 8th Annual Healthy Harvest 5K, with all proceeds supporting their new initiative: Handle With Care. This program is a trauma-sensitive community response to support children’s mental health and well-being, following a traumatic event.

This 3.1 mile family-friendly course will start and end at Heywood Hospital and is targeted to all fitness levels. So far there are more than 200 pre-registered participants for the event. Participants will receive a t-shirt, as well as access to the Hospitality Table, filled with goodies and giveaways from local businesses. There will also be more than 20 vendors representing the several resources available for children and their families in the area.

People are invited to enjoy the tunes of Masters of Music DJ Services, make a tie-dye shirt, learn about nearby resources, and walk or run for the cause.

Breakfast sandwiches will be provided in the morning by the Gardner Rotary Club, and apple cider doughnuts provided by the Red Apple Farm.

This event is rain or shine. Raingear encouraged, and fun shower caps will be provided. Halloween costumes are encouraged.

Runners — challenge yourself to become a part of the elite Healthy Harvest 5K King and Queen’s court, or become crowned the King and Queen of the 2019 Healthy Harvest 5K.

Registration is now open online and will be available at the event. To register or learn more information, visit www.heywood.org/HH5K.
