ATHOL — Meetings and activities have been scheduled for seniors at the Athol Senior Center throughout December, include the following:
The Athol Golden Agers will meet Monday, Dec. 17 at noon in the Athol Senior Center, 82 Freedom St.
The Athol Council on Aging will meet Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 1 p.m.
There are no meetings scheduled this month for the Royal Rubies, or Friends of the Council on Aging.
Foot screenings will be held Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 from 8 to 9:45 a.m. For additional information call 978-249-8986.
Blood pressure clinics will be held Wednesdays, Dec. 11, and Dec. 18 at the Senior Center from 11 a.m. to noon.
Brown Bag pickup at the Senior Center, Dec. 18, from 11-11:45 a.m.
Activities include: Monday — painting, 12:30 to 2 p.m.; cribbage, 12:30 to 3 p.m.;
Tuesday — fitness class, 9 to 10 a.m.; Red Aces/Samba (cards) 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; senior lunch (reservations required by calling 978-249-8986;
Wednesday — quilting group 9 -11 a.m.; senior lunch, noon; woodcarving classes 1-3 p.m.; Mahjong, 1-4 p.m.;
Thursday — fitness class 9 to 10 a.m. , Yoga 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Bridge (cards), 1-4 p.m.
Transportation Council on Aging transportation is for Athol Senior residents to transport between Athol and Orange (shopping centers, physicians offices, Athol Hospital, work, etc). Fee: 50¢ each way. Reservations are to be made at least two days ahead to schedule your ride. (Rides are scheduled on a first come, first served basis). Contact MART in Athol at 9780575-9966 to arrange a ride.
Transportation with MART Montachusett Regional Transit Authority
MRTA is closed on Saturday and Sunday. There is a fixed route transportation which operates every Monday through Friday between Athol and Orange from Market Basket to Orange Innovation Center (covering Route 2A).

Senior Dining Senior dining is available Tuesdays and Wednesdays (call one day in advance by 10:30 a.m. at 978-249-9001 to sign up. The menu for Tuesday, Dec. 11 is barbecue pork rib, corn, winter vegetables blend, multi grain bread, straw fruit cup. Diet: peaches.
Christmas Dinner Program for seniors Enjoy a ham dinner with all the fixings. Volunteers will be cooking and delivering a dinner to your home on Christmas day. Call the Council on Aging office to sign up, 978-249-8986.
Sand For Seniors The Athol Lions Club, with assistance from the Athol Council on Aging, are offering the “Sands For Seniors” program. This program will provide citizens with sand for their walkways during the winter. Athol Lions member will deliver a bucketful of sand to your door. A 5-day notice is required. Athol residents only-age 65 plus. Call the Council on Aging at 978-249-8986 to register for a delivery.
