This weekend: Sunflower Festival at Red Apple Farm

PHILLIPSTON — On Aug. 21 and 22, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Red Apple Farm will be hosting their annual Sunflower Festival. It’s the perfect blend of summer on the farm, live music and nostalgia of the good ol’ days, according to a press release. Pick your own sunflowers and take a wagon ride around the farm. There will be Hawaiian shaved ice, face painting, corn hole, and the farm’s own BBQ, plus Red Apple Farm’s own baked goods, lemonade and Moon Hill Brewery beers and Hardwick wines. The farm is at 455 Highland Avenue in Phillipston.

Aug. 28: Monadnock Tri-State Dance Club

WINCHESTER, N.H. — The Monadnock Tri-State Dance Club will host a dance on Saturday, Aug. 28, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the ELMM Community Center, 21 Durkey St. (off Parker), Winchester, N.H. Labor Day Weekend: Appleseed Country Fair

PHILLIPSTON — The Appleseed Country Fair will be coming back during Labor Day weekend following a year hiatus due to the pandemic. The fair will be held on Saturday, Sept. 4, through Monday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at Red Apple Farm, 455 Highland Avenue, Phillipston. Admission is $15 per car with proceeds to benefit the Athol Fire Department, Phillipston Fire Department and the Johnny Appleseed Trail Association.

Sept. 11-12: Civil War reenactment and Military History Expo

PHILLIPSTON — The 7th Tennessee Unit will present a Civil War Reenactment as part of the Military History Expo, 555 Highland Avenue, Phillipston, Sept. 11-12, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The reenactment will feature an encampment and a battle between the Union and Confederate armies. Garlic Saturday at Seeds of Solidarity

ORANGE — Over a dozen varieties are drying and curing for Garlic Saturdays, held at Seeds of Solidarity from Sept. 11 to Oct. 9.

Organizers explain that Garlic Saturdays began last year in lieu of the North Quabbin Garlic and Arts Festival, which is still on hiatus.

Sept. 18: Garlic and Arts Pop-up Marketplace

ORANGE — With collective well-being paramount, organizers made the decision that the time was not yet right for the usual Garlic and Arts Festival. But local artists need support (and brighten our lives) more than ever, and so, an outdoor pop-up marketplace for local artists is planned for Saturday, Sept. 18, from noon to 5 p.m. at 60 Chestnut Hill Road, Orange, to coincide with the second of five Garlic Saturdays. The marketplace will feature about 20 local artists familiar to festival goers. Admission and parking are free. An open mic will add casual song and story. Light lunch fare will be available. Stay tuned to the festival website or facebook page for updates.

Sept. 26: Motorpalooza car show

TEMPLETON — The annual Motorpalooza Car Show will be held Sept. 26, on the Common in Templeton.
