Orange Police: Feb 8-10

Friday, Feb. 8

2:27 p.m. — Cottage Street caller reporting a tree fell down in his yard, damaging his motor vehicle. Highway Superintendent observed a tree limb had damaged parts of vehicle. Owner was advised to contact insurance company. Highway department contacted to clean up limb.

Saturday, Feb. 9

O12:15 a.m. — Daniel Shays Highway caller requests officer for a male party who came up to the teller and demanded some cigarettes and said that someone would return later and pay for them. White male, coat and white baseball cap, possibly in 40’s. Officer arrested Shaun M. Peckham, 38, of French King Highway, Gill, on charges of shoplifting by concealing merchandise. He was booked at the station then transported to the House of Corrections.

10:36 a.m. — Served warrant. Ashton M. Ostrout, 31, of West River Street, Orange, was arrested on a warrant. One female transported to the station.

Sunday, Feb. 10

3:33 p.m. — A 46-year-old female, detained at Walmart, was arrested for shoplifting by asportation. Officer spoke with management about the criminal complaint process and explained trespass orders.

7:16 p.m. — The fire department responded to Memory Lane for a report of a possible chimney fire. Caller believes residents not home. Unit observed light smoke coming from a side pipe out of the basement. Officer spoke with neighbor who said they have seen smoke coming from that pipe before. Confirmed no fire.
