ATHOL — In-person banking during the COVID-19 pandemic has not been easy. For many weeks, banks in the region were forced to close their doors to the public due to concerns about spreading the virus. But thanks to a new partnership with ACI Worldwide, Athol Credit Union will provide its members with a new online bill pay service that allows cash payments to be made through a network of more than 60,000 participating retailers. According to a press release, this new service will enable members to make loan payments safely and securely while growing the options available for those who want make payments with cash.

During the coming months, ACU will integrate ACI Speedpay with its existing online banking system. This software will allow ACU members to make loan payments online using a computer or mobile device, reducing the need to visit the branch in person or pay the postage to send in a check. Starting this fall, ACU will roll out ACI moBills, allowing members to make payments using cash at local retailers. This easy-to-use app produces a barcode on the member’s smartphone that is scanned by the retailer, allowing the retailer to easily process a cash payment for a loan on the spot. ACI moBills integrates with other mobile wallet systems like Apple Pay to provide even quicker access to the cash payment process.

“We are proud to introduce this new option to our members,” says Courtney Fifield, President and CEO of Athol Credit Union. “Our goal when introducing new technology is to make banking easier for our members. This new service allows our members who want to pay their ACU loans with cash to do so wherever they are. It’s about banking at your pace, not ours.”

“ACU is improving its member experience through the convenience of online and mobile channels,” says Sanjay Gupta, Executive Vice President of ACI Worldwide. “With ACI Speedpay, ACU members can pay their bills while on the go, either digitally or through digitized cash payments, ensuring a more seamless bill payment experience, regardless of location.”

The introduction of this new payment system comes on the heels of ACU’s rollout of a new website featuring easy access to the services provided by ACU.

“While we want to make sure our institution moves forward with technological advances, we also want to make sure we don’t leave anyone behind. We are here to provide financial services to our community as a whole, including those who want to continue to visit us in person, ” says Fifield. “We want to be as modern as possible, but not at the expense of losing members.”

Founded in 1930, Athol Credit Union is a member-owned, not-for-profit credit union with the mission of offering high-quality banking products, exceptional service, and financial education to the North Quabbin community.
