The International Volleyball Hall of Fame announced its high school All-Star teams on June 1 and the North Quabbin region will have a representative.

Junior setter Colby Soltysik of Athol High School made the first-team and will play in the All-Star Showcase Games on Friday, June 14 at Westfield High School.

The IVHF selected 42 players from 17 different WMass high schools.

Soltysik’s match starts at 7:30.

“He was a vocal leader on and off the court,” Athol coach Harrison West-Mather said. “He was one of the best servers in Western Mass. and was strong defensively. He could shut down outside hitters with his blocking.”

During the season, Soltysik finished second in WMass in aces and eighth in assists.

“Even if our passing wasn’t great, Colby could get it to our hitters and in a good spot,” West-Mather said.

The Hall of Fame will announce the IVHF WMass Player of the Year after the match.

Selected players were chosen by the WMass boys high school coaches.

Soltysik and teammate Zack Aldrich were named to the East League All-Stars.

Aldrich had a breakout season for the Red Raiders as a hitter, finishing third in the league in kills.

“Last year, he was a role player; this year, he was our best hitter,” West-Mather said. “He came in and looked strong from the get-go. Made significant improvements. Passing was strong too.”

Soltysik led the league in aces.
