Friday in Orange: Marty’s Reminisce Orchestra

ORANGE — On Friday, July 30, Marty’s Reminisce Orchestra will be playing at Butterfield Park Bandstand at 7 p.m.

There is lots of room to listen from the car or bring the folding chairs closer to the music. For over 20 years, this band of local talent has been bringing music of the ’40s and ’50s to dancing and listening audiences. The group includes vocalists Linda Piragis and Chuck Berube who are local vocal stars themselves. Marty Picard is the founder, director and drummer of this traditional 15-piece orchestra. They have played for benefit events, summer concerts, and public theme dances in the North Quabbin and beyond.

Aug. 3: Family Night Out

“Night Out,” sponsored by the North Quabbin Community Coalition, is a free event for the whole family: hotdogs, lemonade, music, games, K-9s, information and more. Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the following locations:

Athol: Lord Pond Plaza, Freedom Street

Orange: Butterfield Park, 82 Eeast River St.

Petersham: On the Common, Main Street/Route 32

Royalston: Bullock Park, 1 Athol Road.

Aug. 7: Mass. Butterfly Club walk

ATHOL — The Athol Bird and Nature club and the Mass. Butterfly Club are co-sponsoring a walk on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Cass Meadow, North Conservation Area. Cass Meadow is being maintained as an example of early-successional habitat — grasses and wildflowers that provide a home for butterflies, dragonflies, birds, and animals with a yen for the sun. Parking is on-street. No restrooms. Take-out food options nearby. For meeting location, contact leader Wendy Howes at curiousbooks@verizon.net or 413-967-4737 or leader Dave Small dave@dhsmall.net.
