Youth Group raises funds to support Guatemalans

  • The Youth Group of the Athol Congregational Church has presented a $2,000 check to the Maya Kaqchikel University in Guatemala which provides instruction in the ancient art of weaving to indigenous women. In 2017 the Youth Group traveled to Guatemala on a mission trip. While there, they met women from the weaver’s collaborative. They were so impressed with the work of these women that they decided to raise money for scholarships. It took 18 months for the group to raise the $2,000 by conducting bake sales, a rummage sale, a to-go Easter Dinner sale, as well as generous donations from church members. With a check made out to Global Ministries, are, from left — Caprice Bachelder, Vincent Sampagnaro, Jan Doody, Joe Bezio, Jr., Adelia Sampagnaro and Naomi Charest. contributed photo
