ATHOL — With Christmas less than a week away, children around the globe are writing letters to Santa, are on their best behavior, and eagerly anticipating that magical morning, hoping Santa and his elves stopped at their home while they were fast asleep. The Athol Daily News Santa Fund helps keep that Christmas spirit alive with tremendous support from its army of volunteers and local citizens, who, with every dollar, help provide toys for the many underserved children in the area.

Today's donations ring up at $365, to bring the running total to $11,160.50 on a goal of $13,500.

Contributions were received from: A Generous Elf $100; Vixen $100; Anonymous $50; Love Louise In Memory of Leroy, Olive & Lee Mosher $50; John Peterson In Memory of Bill & Evelyn Peterson $25; Santa’s Helper $20; Paul & Freda Maier In Memory of Richard Coburn $20.

To help with the campaign to provide gifts to local children, look for the coupon in the Daily News and send a check or money order to: Athol Daily news Santa Fund, Athol Daily News, P.O. Box 1000, Athol, MA 01331, or drop off donations in the business office at 225 Exchange St. Donations may also be made anonymously, or in memory of a loved one.

Remember, we have an Athol Navy veteran, who, for the fourth year, is keeping an eye on the final sum collected. At the end of the campaign, he calculates 10 percent of the total, and donates that amount out of his own pocket to the Montachusett Veterans Outreach Center in Gardner, which serves veterans in the North Quabbin region.
