It’s official! River Rat Race April 13th

  • Matthew Flint braves freezing temperatures Thursday to undertake the annual tradition of changing the numbers at the Athol Lions Club’s River Rat Race sign affixed to the former Mt. Pleasant Professional Building in Athol along the Millers River at the River Rat Race starting point. Flint is the son of Race Director David Flint of Orange, who took over the organization of the race 27 years ago from race founder Ted “Big Cheese” Crumb, who ran the race 27 years before that. This year’s 56th annual Athol to Orange canoe race will be held April 13. Assisting Matthew was David Bishop (lower right corner), Athol Lions Club 1st Vice President.
