Sr. Irene Audet
MARLBORO — The Sisters of the Assumption mourn the loss of Sr. Irene Audet, formerly known as Sr. Antoine-des-Anges, who passed away at Marie Esther Health Center in Marlboro, on Sunday, May 28, 2017. She was a native of Salem, the daughter of Yvonne (Bedard) Audet and Joseph Audet.
Sr. Irene entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Assumption on Jan. 31, 1945. Following her profession in 1947, she served in the ministry of education as a primary grade teacher in Glens Falls, N.Y., Dracut and Northbridge, Greenville and Laconia, N.H. from 1961 to 1967. She also served as a principal, superior and treasurer. In 1968, after formal training at the Maria Montessori Institute in Philadelphia, Pa., Sr. Irene taught and administered Montessori Schools in Petersham and Millbury, for over 20 years.
Sr. Irene is survived by her stepbrother Joseph, the Sisters of the Assumption worldwide, and the Sisters of St. Anne and staff in Marlboro. Sr. Irene also facilitated Sisters of the Assumption Associate Groups for many years.
Calling hours will be on Friday, June 2, from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 2, at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the Sisters of St. Anne in Marlboro. Sr. Irene will be laid to rest in the East Cemetery, Petersham.
