ORANGE — A committal service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at 2 p.m., at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen St., Winchendon, for Peter A. Soderman, 79, of Brookside Road, who died April 12, 2017. Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, is assisting the family.
ORANGE — Peter A. “Pete” Soderman, 79, of Brookside Road, died Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester.
Born in Fitchburg on Feb. 22, 1938, he was a son of Paul and Iva (Smith) Soderman.
In December of 1959, Peter married Annette J. (Remillard) and they enjoyed 54 years of marriage until her death on Jan. 20, 2014.
Pete enlisted into the United States Army on March 27, 1957, and was honorably discharged on March 25, 1960, and then served in the Army Reserves another three years.
Employed by the Rodney Hunt Company in Orange for 35 years, Pete worked in the shipping department until his retirement in 2000.
Pete was involved with the Orange Fire Department for over 30 years as well as serving as an EMT on the Orange ambulance. He also started the fire department’s “Breakfast By The River” fundraiser which raised thousands of dollars during its time for equipment for the fire department.
For many years Pete and his friend, Francis Smith, ran a dunk tank and traveled around to various fairs.
After retiring, Pete made and sold many picnic tables and enjoyed traveling to Maine, Hampton and Old Orchard.
The last couple years, Peter enjoyed spending time with his friend Dickie Knight and going out to eat. Peter also loved visiting with Linda at Market Basket.
Survivors include his children, Tammy White and her husband, Jim, of Phillipston, Dean Soderman, Kim Soderman and her fiancé, Lionel Sanderson, of Warwick, and Ginger Soderman of Athol; grandchildren, Kyle, Kristin, and Jeremy; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Ethan, Colby, Tyler, and Asher; a sister, Jean Stanley and her husband, Raymond, of Phillipston; and a brother, David Soderman and his wife, Peaches, of Templeton.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 20, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange.
There are no formal services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Orange Firemen’s Association, 18 Water St., Orange, MA 01364.
