MECHANICSVILLE, Va. — Louis A. Nelson Jr., 88, of Mechanicsville, Va., went to his rest in Jesus on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, until the resurrection morning.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Nelson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, June Bass Nelson; his children, Victor (Linda), Lorraine Worrell (Frank), Kathy Kyburz (David), Linda Layton (Rick), Debbie Bruso (Carl), Vernon Nelson, and Rebecca Willhelm; 15 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Louis was born in Greenfield, Mass., and raised in Athol, Mass. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a combat medic. He was a man with a strong faith in the Lord and faithfully served his local Seventh-day Adventist Church in many capacities. He loved nature, hiking, camping, and reading; especially his Bible, but his greatest passion was his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m., at Athol Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3200 South Athol Rd., Athol, where he will receive his Military Honors.
