Ravens TE Pitta to be placed on IR
OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta will be placed on injured reserve after doctors advised him that it was unsafe for him to return from right hip surgery.
The 30-year-old Pitta said Wednesday that he will continue to rehabilitate his injured hip with hopes of playing next year.
Pitta caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl following the 2012 season before fracturing and dislocating his hip in training camp the following July. He returned for the final four games of the season and got off to a good start in 2014 before again dislocating his hip in Week 3.
Pitta returned to practice three weeks ago with hopes of joining the active roster, but those hopes were dashed.
He says doctors deemed his return to be “too much of a risk at this time.”
