Police violence

I watched the videos of the “arrest” of Tyre Nichols released by the Memphis Police Department. Holy Crap. The beating I saw should never have happened. Mr. Nichols died. Police officers are charged with murder. No one stepped in to stop it. I saw at least nine on-duty folks not doing what they are paid to do, nor doing what they each pledged to do!

Incidents of police brutality, of excessive force, violence, are often categorized as the acts of “a bad apple.” Well, I imagine that is often a part of the truth, but those videos expose a lot more than a bad apple. It looked to me like systemic rot. They gathered and beat him. Everyone there allowed/accepted/colluded with the police abuse of power. Horrible. Intolerable.

Mr. Nichols should be alive!

We need national police reform. Passing the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act would be a worthwhile step.
