WINCHENDON — Local and state police continue to investigate a threat made via social media to Murdock Middle/High School, according to a statement made by Superintendent Ruthann Petruno-Goguen.

On Friday morning, the district closed all schools after being made aware of the threatening social media post. Petruno-Goguen said that all in-district activities scheduled for Friday and throughout the weekend are canceled.

“We dismissed all school buildings, immediately notified families of our re-unification plan, and conducted a safe dismissal for our students and staff,” the superintendent said via the statement. “The Winchendon Police, in conjunction with the Massachusetts State Police, are continuing to investigate this situation.”

Winchendon Police, reached on Friday morning, said that all students were safe.

Petruno-Goguen thanked the community for their cooperation during the dismissal process and asked that messages sent to parents be read in their entirety and school phone lines remain clear during emergency situations.

“The safety of our students and staff is our utmost priority,” the superintendent said.
