Mahar duo compete in MSTCA Pentathlon

ROXBURY — On Wednesday, Mahar’s Anna Wetherbee, one of the top performers on the school’s indoor track team, competed in the Massachusetts State Track girls Pentathlon, where she scored 2,033 points. Her score broke her school record by 367 points.

“She ran an outstanding 800 to bring her score way up,” said Mahar coach Sarah Woodward. “It was amazing to see how she progressed throughout the meet and from her last pentathlon.”

Mahar’s Jordyn Berry competed alongside Wetherbee and earned 1,662 points.

The pentathlon consists of five events, the 55-meter hurdles, high jump, long jump, shot put and 800-meter run.

Wetherbee completed the 55-hurdles with a time of 12.33. She completed the high jump with a distance of 4-06 and long jump with a distance of 15-00.75. She threw the shot put 19 feet, 8.75 inches and completed the 800-meter run with a time of 2:37.77. Her score of 2,033 came from 230 points in the hurdles, 481 points in the high jump, 451 points in the long jump, 272 points in the shot put and 599 points in the 800-meter run.

Berry completed the 55-hurdles with a time of 11.57. She completed the high jump with a distance of 4-06 and the long jump with a distance of 13-04. Berry threw the shot put 21 feet, 8.75 inches and completed the 800-meter run with a time of 3:15.76. Her total score of 1,662 came from 315 points in the hurdles, 481 points in the high jump, 322 points in the long jump, 311 points in the shot put and 233 points in the 800-meter run.

The event is hosted by Shrewsbury High School and took place at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury. Each team may enter up three participants. In total, 123 athletes participated in the event.
