WARWICK — A local man won the 2020 Vermont Lifetime Hunting and Fishing License Lottery out of 19,419 tickets purchased.

Warwick resident Robert Hubbard, 57, bagged the win in January, according to the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department. Attempts to contact Hubbard were unsuccessful.

This year’s ticket sales of $2 apiece netted $38,772.50 for the department. Its website states this money can be leveraged with federal dollars to produce more than $155,000 to support the department’s mission to conserve fish, wildlife, plants and their habitats. The department holds the drawing every year.

“The Lifetime License Lottery gives anyone, resident or nonresident, an opportunity to win a Vermont hunting and fishing license that is valid for the recipient’s lifetime,” Vermont Fish and Wildlife Commissioner Louis Porter said in a statement. “Even if you don’t win the license, by applying, you know you have contributed to fish and wildlife conservation in Vermont.”

According to the website, a person can enter Vermont’s lottery for a lifetime license by adding the $2 entry fee when they buy their license at vtfishandwildlife.com. Entry is also allowed with a printable application available on the website or by applying wherever Vermont hunting, fishing and trapping licenses are sold. There is no limit on the number of times someone may enter throughout the year.

“These funds help us to manage the state’s sportfish and game animals, protect threatened and endangered species, and conserve important habitat for wildlife,” Porter said in the statement.
