It’s official: Destiney Philoxy will once again don a UMass women’s basketball jersey next season.

The senior point guard announced on Wednesday night that she will return to the Minutewomen basketball team for her final year of eligibility, granted to all NCAA athletes because of COVID-19. Philoxy was the one question mark left on UMass’ roster; every other member of the UMass team was slated to return with the exception of graduate student Michelle Pruitt.

Philoxy was the heartbeat of the Minutewomen all season. The point guard earned her 1,000th career point and picked up her 500th career assist during this past season, and was named to the Atlantic-10 All-Conference second team as well as the All-Defensive team list.

The Queens, N.Y. native averaged 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, and finished the 2021-22 season with a league-leading 187 assists, averaging 5.7 dimes per game.

UMass reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1998 this season, falling to Notre Dame in the opening round last weekend in Norman, Okla.
