ORANGE — A 76-year-old Princeton man died Thursday morning after the truck he was driving veered off Tully Road and crashed into a tree, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

The crash, which occurred near the intersection with Fryeville Road, was reported at around 10:30 a.m. First responders subsequently closed Tully Road between Fryeville and Royalston roads.

Orange EMS transported the 76-year-old Princeton man, the truck’s only occupant, to Athol Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the DA’s office.

Orange Fire Chief James Young said by phone Thursday afternoon that it was a “serious accident.”

“We transported one adult male from the accident with serious injuries,” Young said. He declined to elaborate on the nature of the injuries.

Police declined to comment at the crash scene.

State Police troopers assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section and the Crime Scene Services Section, as well as the Orange Police and Fire departments responded. According to the DA’s office, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
