PETERSHAM — The Petersham Brass Band will present its second concert of the season on Sunday from the Bandstand on Petersham Common at 7:30 p.m. The Band opened its season last Sunday evening in the Town Hall, having been driven inside by drizzly weather under the leadership of Joseph Goguen from Gardner. This week’s concert will be conducted by Stephanie Vinci, music director at Athol-Royalston Regional High School. This will be Vinci’s second appearance with the band.

This week’s program will kick off the Fourth of July week with a mixture of patriotic, American folk, popular tunes and marches to set the mood for a week of celebrating the birth of the country. Vinci has promised a program with something for everyone.

The Petersham Brass Band was founded in 1914, and has performed continuously since, except for a couple of years during World War II. The Band has performed at town anniversary celebrations, agricultural fairs, Memorial Day and Old Home Day, in addition to its regular summer concert season. The band has had five permanent directors during its tenure, each lending their own musical style and personality to it. That has resulted in a wide ranging library of music for the band to perform each summer. Sunday’s concert will be its 820th performance.

Refreshments will be available at the band’s hot dog stand — proceeds help provide new music every year. The Petersham Montessori School will host a bake sale and the Lions Club will offer popcorn. In the event of rain, the concert will move into Town Hall.
