PETERSHAM — The Petersham Brass Band will open its summer concert season on Sunday, June 26, from the Bandstand on Petersham Common at 7 p.m. The concert will be under the direction of former conductor Stuart Britton, who led the band for over 15 years. Britton is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music and is recently retired from the East Bridgewater School System.

The Petersham Brass Band was established in 1914 and has been presenting a summer concert season for over 100 years, with the exception, of a couple of years during World War II and the COVID-19 shutdown of 2020. The band has also participated in town anniversary celebrations, the agricultural fairs and has performed at the Big E. It has participated in the community tree lighting ceremonies as well.

The band is composed of local musicians of all ages and new members are always welcome. Anyone interested in joining and playing with the band or having questions about the concert series should contact Band President Dana Robinson at 978-724-3571. The concert season is six weeks long and will run through July 31. Rehearsals are held on Thursday nights in the Town Hall. Concerts are held rain or shine with the concert moving into the Town Hall in the event of rain.

Refreshments are available at all concerts with the band providing hotdogs and soft drinks. The Lions club will be selling popcorn each week and local organizations will sponsor a food and baked goods sale each week.
