ATHOL — A single-family home sustained damage to an interior wall during a fire that officials say originated in a pellet stove.

According to Athol Deputy Fire Chief Jeffrey Parker, the department received a report at 12:54 Monday morning for a fire at 193 Freedom St., a single-family home. A pellet stove, which was vented to the outside, was the area of origin, and the fire extended up the front wall of the home’s interior and into the attic.

Fire damage was limited to the wall area and there was smoke and water damage throughout the house. A full investigation is still underway.

Parker said the fire was brought under control by 1:45 a.m. and no injuries were reported.

Mutual aid was provided by the Orange, Petersham, Gardner and Barre fire departments, with station coverage by Winchendon, New Salem and Fitchburg.
