Dear PC Doctor:

I get more than 100 emails every day. It seems like it takes me forever to find the ones that really need my attention, and I get a bit lost going through them. I waste too much time. Do you have any ideas for helping me wade through all this and not miss important messages? I am using Microsoft 365 and Outlook.

Signed,

Drowning in email

Dear Drowning:

Outlook has something called the Focused Inbox. You can create settings that will sort your incoming emails into two batches — Focused and Other. Focused will be the ones that you train Outlook to know are important to you.

To turn on your Focused Inbox, log in to your Outlook account and select the tab that says View. Next, select Show Focused Inbox. The Focused and Other tabs will appear at the top of your mailbox. You’ll be informed about email flowing to Other, and you can switch between tabs any time to take a quick look.

There are instructions on the Outlook support website for moving messages into the right category and training your account to sort them the way you want.

Similarly, for folks out there using Gmail, you can have your Inbox sort messages into categories: Social, Promotions, Updates, and Forums, which can help you more quickly find messages that need your attention.

I hope this helps! Until next time, Happy Computing!
