ORANGE — A driver was injured in an accident in which they struck a utility pole on Route 202.

According to Orange Fire Chief James Young, a call came in at 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday reporting a vehicle striking a pole on Route 202 near Herrick’s Tavern. The driver was transported to Athol Hospital by Orange EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.

Prior to fire and EMS arrival, Young said that a second vehicle, a tractor-trailer, struck the downed utility pole, with that evening’s heavy fog considered a factor in the accident. The driver in that vehicle was not injured.

Power to the area was knocked out for several hours. National Grid was called and had the power restored by 5:20 a.m. with repairs to the pole underway Thursday morning.
