ORANGE – Seeds of Solidarity Farm and Education Center in Orange announces its 2023 season of events with over 15 free and sliding scale workshops.
The organization’s Women Healing Women Healing Earth initiative consists of workshops that are offered singly. They are free or by donation to support access for women of all income levels. A range of presenters, diverse in cultural backgrounds, offer topics such as reiki and yoga, writing and journal making, botanical sketching and watercolor, local to global cooking, clay seed pots and more. Space in each is limited and preregistration is required. Priority is to women age 18 and older who live in the North Quabbin or Central Massachusetts regions, with those from nearby communities encouraged as well.
Other programs include a free solidarity inspiration series which begins with an April 29 presentation called Seed the Future: Planting Tips. For this 10:30 a.m., one-hour workshop, all are welcome and no preregistration is needed. Participants are welcome to enjoy a self-guided tour of Seeds of Solidarity’s no-till, climate resilient gardens, fields, greenhouses and energy efficient buildings after the presentation, as well as the bounty from the farmstand, which opens mid-April and features popular salad greens.
The organization has three Grow the Future sliding scale immersive workshops scheduled this season, including one on chestnut tree planting, science and cooking; a weekend building skills intensive; and a no-till gardening and farming workshop. A midsummer potluck features a conversation with the Seeds of Solidarity founders stemming from their book “Making Love While Farming: Field Guide to a Life of Passion and Purpose.” All programs take place at the Seeds of Solidarity site on Chestnut Hill Road in Orange.
