Athol Savings Bank donates to River Rat Race

ATHOL—On Thursday, Feb. 22, members of the Athol Lions accepted a $1,000 donation from Athol Savings Bank, a long-time supporter of the Athol Lions Club River Rat Race. This year marks the 59th year of the running of the Athol-to-Orange canoe race scheduled for Saturday, April 13, with the cannon going off at 1 p.m. to start the race.

This event, which generally marks the transition between winter and spring, welcomes hundreds of competitors from all of the New England States as well New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Minnesota, and some southern states like Florida and Georgia. It also attracts thousands of spectators to the Athol-Orange area for a weekend of festivities.

Signups begin March 1 online at https://www.RiverRatRace.com or in person at Else Where at 1485 Main St. in Athol. Entries close on Thursday, April 11 at 8 p.m.

Royalston to elect delegates to Democratic State Convention

ROYALSTON—Registered Democrats in Royalston will hold a caucus on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at the Royalston Town Hall to elect delegates and alternates to the 2024 Massachusetts Democratic State Convention.

This year’s state convention will be held on June 1 at the DCU Center in Worcester, where thousands of Democrats from across the state will come together to organize to win up and down the ballot. This year, the delegates will be voting to nominate a candidate for the senate set currently held by Elizabeth Warren.

The caucus is open to all registered and pre-registered Democrats in Royalston. Pre-registered Democrats who will be 16 years old by Feb. 15, 2024 will be allowed to participate and run as a delegate or alternate. Royalston can elect one delegate and one alternate to the Convention.

Youth, minorities, people with disabilities and LGBTQ individuals who are not elected as a delegate or alternate may apply to be an add-on delegate at the caucus or at www.massdems.org.

PETERSHAM – Democrats in Petersham will hold a caucus on Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m. at the Petersham Town Hall, lower level, 1 South Main St., to elect delegates and an alternate to attend the 2024 Massachusetts Democratic Convention.

The caucus is open to all registered and pre-registered (16 years old by Thursday Feb. 15) Democrats in Petersham. Petersham can elect two delegates and one alternate to the convention. Youth (age 16 to 35), people with disabilities, people of color, veterans, and members of the LGBTQ community not elected as a delegate or alternate may apply to be an add-on delegate at the caucus or by visiting www.massdems.org/massdems-convention.

Springtime soiree with Kim Larkin

ATHOL—Join the Athol Public Library on Thursday, March 21, from 6–7 p.m., for Kim Larkin’s workshop welcoming springtime with easy entertaining ideas.

Larkin’s one hour workshop will demonstrate easy ways to create a visual, fun, colorful, easy buffet celebrating spring’s arrival. Topics highlighted will be Tablescaping 101, healthful fuss-free recipes, and mocktail/wine suggestions. There will be fine chocolate samplings and a unique mocktail to try. A trivia quiz and fun poetry round out this cheerful presentation.

Larkin has been teaching students from age 5 – 75 for over 20 years. She has a commercial chocolate business and she is a licensed chocolatier. Richard Kane named to American International College Athletic Director’s 3.0 Club

SPRINGFIELD—American International College (AIC) congratulates student-athlete Richard Kane of Orange for induction into the Athletic Director’s 3.0 Club for the Fall 2023 semester.

In a ceremony held at the Butova Gymnasium on Feb. 14, Athletics Director Jessica Chapin, honored Kane as among more than 300 student-athletes who have achieved a commendable cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher during their tenure at AIC. Kane is majoring in Health Science.
