On Saturday, Oct. 14, the Athol Public Library and Hero Shack Press are teaming up for the return of Comic Book Fest. The Athol Town Hall and library will be transformed into a comic book lover’s dream. With comics, artist panels, vendors, cosplay, games, crafts and more, there will be something for everyone at this family-friendly event.

After a successful first year, the team has been working on bringing in new artists, vendors, community partners, and activities to the festival style event.

Christopher and Diana Tamulevich, the team behind Hero Shack Press, have been inviting and collaborating with independent comic book creators from the North Quabbin area and all over New England. Visitors from last year’s fest will recognize some familiar faces while also being treated to new participating artists.

“This is an awesome showcase of local creators and great opportunity to come together and celebrate a love of art and reading,” said Young Adult Library Tech Emily Boughton. “We are so excited to introduce our community to new independent artists and share all the fun activities we’ve been working on.”

During the festival there will also be special panels, demonstrations and events. Heroes in training can take on a special obstacle and gear up by designing their own masks, capes, and accessories in the “Hero Zone.” His and Hers Comics will be selling pop culture items including mainstream comics while the Friends of the Athol Public Library will be selling gently-used books. Guests of all ages can show off their costumes and handiwork during the afternoon’s all ages cosplay contest. A full schedule of events will be available on the library’s website and social media pages prior to the event.

As they participate in the activities and visit the various artists, visitors will have the opportunity to earn tickets that they can enter into raffles for signed prints, card games, collectables and more.

The Comic Book Fest will take place at the Athol Town Hall, 584 Main Street, and next door at the Athol Public Library on Oct 14. Visitors of all ages are welcome to stop by and enjoy the festivities from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
