Thank you for reporting on facts and history surrounding Northfield’s current EMS chief [“Chief’s failure to transport infant prompts license suspension,” Recorder, April 27]. I have been following the articles closely as my family has lived in Northfield for 16 years. Should your paper have not reported such pertinent information to the residents and taxpayers of Northfield, my assumption is that we would be in the dark about it.

During recent town meetings, residents have been told by members of the Selectboard that we are incredibly fortunate to have the current chief leading our EMS team. We were strongly encouraged to vote to clear a forested wetland area to make way for the building of a new safety complex. One of the reasons, we were told, that this parcel of land was so appealing, is that it’s very close to where the chief lives. You see, this would result in residents being extra safe because of speedy travel time from his home. So, what should residents believe?

We either trust our Selectboard that we are in the most competent of hands, or we trust the data and history that’s being reported. Northfield residents deserve concrete evidence as to why the Selectboard has made the decision to keep our current EMS chief on staff. If it’s a sound decision for our town that they're proud of, prove it. “No comment” is unacceptable to the people being represented, especially when the safety of citizens is at stake.
