Greenfield should consider existing police staffing models

Why not follow or try the local police staffing model that is being successfully used by by both Deerfield and Montague to keep each of their town's 24-hour police coverage ? A small base staff for the 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. shift and then backups are called in only when needed. This would mean a continuation of Greenfield's full 24/7 police coverage; no need to change all shifts to 10 hours; no need for the recently introduced cost of $300 per week per person to be paid out for changing all the shifts to 10 hours. As stated in last week's City Council meeting, officers are available to be called in for emergency overage to provide assistance as needed.
