It wasn’t the ending the Frontier boys soccer team was hoping for on Monday against Hopkins Academy. 

With the game tied 1-1 and seven minutes to go, the Redhawks turned the ball over and Hopkins’ Patrick Fitzgibbons found the back of the net off a dish from Andrew Ciaglo, propelling the Golden Hawks to a 2-1 victory in Hadley. 

“They’re an athletic team and are well coached,” Frontier coach Evan Horton said. “One team wanted it more and unfortunately, it wasn’t us.” 

Cody West put the Golden Hawks on the board eight minutes in, capitalizing on a defensive error by the Redhawks. Ciaglo picked up an assist on the goal. 

Frontier pulled even early in the second half off a goal from Brady Burch,  when he finished off an assist from Patrick Boyden. 

Adan Hernandez played the first 65 minutes of the game in goal for the Redhawks, stopping seven shots. Owen Babb came on for the final 15 minutes and made four saves. Jack Feltovic made five saves for Hopkins. 

Girls soccer

Mahar 7, Athol 1 — Delaney Parker continued her scoring tear on Monday against the Bears. 

The seniors scored five goals — three in the first half — to lead Mahar to a 7-1 victory over Athol on the road. 

Parker opened the scoring six minutes in and added her second with 29 minutes to play in the first half off an assist from Julia Zani. Micalyn Mailloux found the back of the net one minute later off a dish from Sienna Moore to put the Senators up 3-0. 

The Bears struck with three minutes to go in the first half with Liz Mailloux on the scoring end, but Parker answered 20 seconds later to put Mahar up 4-1 going into the half. Moore had the assist on Parker’s strike. 

Parker opened the second half with two goals in the first 11 minutes, the first assisted by Astha Bernard and the second by Moore. 

Micalyn Mailloux scored her second of the game with 10 minutes left with the assist going to Parker. 

Taylor Soucie had one save in the win for the Senators while Jenna Bonenfant came up with 18 saves for Athol. 

Girls volleyball

Greenfield 3, Mahar 0 — Korynne Callahan was a menace in the service station, finishing with 13 aces to go along with eight kills to lead the Green Wave to a 25-10, 25-18, 25-14 sweep of the host Senators on Monday. 

Cassei Mattei also had double-digit aces with 11 in the win for Greenfield, and she also added four kills. Karisma Santana had five kills and four aces and Maya Morey had a pair of kills and three aces in the win for the Green Wave. 

Saylor Kegans had a big match on offense for Mahar, recording eight kills and adding in an ace. Maddy Blattenberger had five aces and Keanna Thompson tossed six assists in the loss. 

Athol 3, Pioneer 0 — Lexi Forte continued her strong season for the Bears, dropping four aces and dishing out seven assists as Athol came away with a 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 victory on the road against the Panthers Monday.  

Kassidy Swan — who finished with five kills — and Kennedy Vaillancourt (two kills) came up big in the second set with their play in front of the net for the Bears while Alyssa Logan had five aces in the third set alone. 

Lindsey LeBlanc added three aces, four kills and five assists while Alma White had two aces and five kills in the win for Athol. 

Caoilinn Lounder came up with an impressive 17 digs for Pioneer to go along with four assists and three kills. Aiden Wall had 14 digs and an assist while Lillian Faille and Emily Tibbetts celebrated their Senior Night for the Panthers. 

Frontier 3, Turners 0 — The Redhawks unbeaten streak continued, with setter Olivia Rosewarne recording 19 assists to lead Frontier to a 25-14, 25-21, 25-18 triumph over the host Thunder on Monday. 

Rosewarne made sure to find Jillian Apanell, Charlotte Doulette and Lucia Doulette often, as Apanell led the way with seven kills. Lucia Doulette had six kills and Charlotte Doulette had five kills, both from their middle spots. 

Lilah Evans had four aces and Reilly Isler had seven digs in the win for the Redhawks. 

Taylor Greene had six assists and four aces for Turners, with Madi Liimatainen recording a trio of aces and kills. Emily Young had a pair of kills.
