Friday: Orange Community Band performs
ORANGE — The Orange Community Band, under the direction of Stephanie Parker, will present a free band concert on the Bandstand in Butterfield Park on Friday, July 22. Concerts will continue on Friday evenings through July 29.
ORANGE — Jumptown skydivers will be dropping in to Third Thursday Fair, July 21, at Butterfield Park, which runs from 5 to 8 p.m. Jumpers will land anywhere from 6:30 to 6:45 p.m. You can view the landing from the bleachers.
PHILLIPSTON — The Historical Society of Phillipston will open its museum to the public on Sundays between 1 and 3 p.m. through September. It is a free experience for you at 80 State Road, Phillipston (next to the Fire and EMS Building). It is also open at other times by calling at 978-249-4356 or 978-939-5656 to set up an appointment convenient for you.
ROYALSTON — On Sunday, July 24, at 2 p.m., Ferron Dooley Fairchild will lead a flower design workshop at the Town Hall, 13 On the Common, in Royalston. Pre-registration is required by calling the Library at 978-249-3572 or emailing royalstonlibrary@gmail.com. Ferron will instruct participants in design concepts and principals, sharing which flowers work best and when and how to harvest different varieties. Free. This program is funded by the Friends of the Phinehas S. Newton Library. Refreshments will be served during the program.
BARRE — The Quabbin Community Band will perform on Barre Common, Sunday, July 24, at 6 p.m. with “Scenes from the Screen.” Guest Conductor Jared Block will take the baton. The concert season runs through Sunday, Aug. 14.
NEW SALEM — The Pioneer Valley Brass will perform a free public concert of traditional and modern music arranged for Brass on Sunday, July 24, at 2 p.m. at the Swift River Valley Historical Society in New Salem. This program coincides with the anniversary of the birthday of Harriet Clary, who lived for many years in the Whitaker-Clary House, which is part of the Museum today. Birthday cake will be served after the Brass performance.
The program is sponsored by the First Universalist Parish of North Dana as the 796th in a series of memorial concerts to further the memory of the Parish, which was forced to leave North Dana for the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir 85 years ago.
PETERSHAM — The Petersham Brass Band will present its fifth concert of the season on Sunday evening, July 24, from the band stand on Petersham Common at 7 p.m. The concert will be under the direction of former director Stuart Britton.
This week’s program will feature an around the world tour in music ranging from American favorites to British, Italian and African themed compositions that will be familiar to all.
As always refreshments will be available, with proceeds to benefit the band and the Lions will have popcorn available. The concert will be held rain or shine, moving into the Town Hall in the event of rain.
ATHOL — Open house at the Millers River Environmental Center will be from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, hosted by Ernie Leblanc and Jeff Johnstone. Topic: Birding Basics. Join Jeff and Ernie to learn how to become a better birder.

WORCESTER — The Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra continues its Summer Concert Series on Sunday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m., at the Levenson Concert Stage at Institute Park on Salisbury Street. Under the direction of Principal Conductor Myron Romanul, the orchestra will present a Salute to Disney. Free.
NEW SALEM — On Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 6:30 p.m., the New Salem Public Library will present “A Cultural and Historical Reflection of the 1960s Through the Music of the Beatles” in the Library Community Room. This presentation features live acoustic music and audience sing-alongs, coupled with rare audio and video clips. This program is supported in part by a grant from the New Salem Cultural Council, a local agency, which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
