Veterans Day program Sunday in Athol begins with brief flag raisings

ATHOL — The annual Veterans Day Program will be held Sunday, Nov. 11. The Veterans Council will meet for a brief flag raising ceremony as follows:

Vietnam Veterans Park on Starrett Avenue, 10 a.m.

Phillips Park (across from the Uptown Common) at 10:15

And the VFW Park (across from the YMCA) at 10:30.

The main Veterans Day program will begin at 11 a.m. in Memorial Hall, 584 Main St.

Master of ceremonies will be Peter Newman, Athol Veterans Council.

The opening and closing prayers will be offered by Peter Newman, Chaplain, American Legion Post 102.

Guest speaker will be Richard Connor, 2nd Vice Commander, Department of MA, DAV, United States Army.

A wreath laying ceremony will be conducted by the American Legion Auxiliary, and “Taps” will be played by the American Legion.

Participating in the ceremony will be the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 46; AMVETS, Post 793; American Legion Post 102; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 650, Pequoig Detachment 1168 Marine Corps League and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 340.

AT the conclusion of the program, refreshments will be served, courtesy of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 46 to all participants in Liberty Hall.
