Athol Police Log: Dec. 17-19, 2020

Thursday, Dec. 17

1:13 a.m. — Caller reporting her neighbor’s residence has all windows open and air conditioners running for past two days, Central Street. No issues at the home. All was well.

2:13 a.m. — Officer out with an occupied vehicle, Pequoig Avenue. Checked on a male party sitting in the parking lot. Male party was sent on way.

2:48 a.m. — 911 call for CO detectors sounding with smell of gas, Lindsay Lane. AFD handled the call. Ventilating for low levels of CO.

3:52 a.m. — 911 call for an unresponsive 70-year-old male who fell and is not breathing, Castle Avenue.

8:06 a.m. — 911 call for a black sedan doing doughnuts in the parking lot, New Athol Road. Vehicle was gone on arrival.

10:11 a.m. — Caller reporting ATVs racing up and down the road, Chestnut Hill Avenue. Gone on arrival.

10:21 a.m. — Officer asked male party multiple times to stop walking in the roadway during a snow storm so he doesn’t get hit, Main and Exchange streets.

10:25 a.m. — Caller reporting a female party who was coming to stay with him got into a motor vehicle accident on her way and stated she was going by ambulance, C Street. Officer spoke with NHSP Trooper who stated reporting party had reported the incident to them and they were currently investigating the issue. Trooper stated he attempted to make contact with the tow truck driver and girlfriend who had contacted the reporting party, but the numbers were inactive.

10:48 a.m. — Officer out with a disabled motor vehicle, Chestnut Hill Avenue. Motor vehicle was able to make it up the road.

11:18 a.m. — Caller reporting vehicle has been parked across the street for months, Green Street. Spoke with DPW directly, states vehicle is not a problem. Motor vehicle is off the road.

11:38 a.m. — Athol DPW is reporting a vehicle that is parked in the road and is blocking them from plowing the street, Main Street. Attempted to call the registered owner, but no one answered and the voicemail is full, so no message was able to be left. Spoke with two others in the apartment house who state owner is not home. Neighbor states it doesn’t run and there is no key. Owner is suspended. Officer requested next available tow. Dale’s on scene.

11:53 a.m. — Athol DPW reporting disabled motor vehicle, Main and Crescent streets. Vehicle was able to get unstuck.

12:03 p.m. — Motor vehicle stop, Exchange Street. Vehicle completely covered in snow. Snow removed, sent on way.

12:04 p.m. — 911 caller reporting that her vehicle was broken into, School Street.

12:28 p.m. — 911 caller requesting assistance carrying her 9-month-old child down the stairs, Shore Drive. The reporting party is unable to do so due to a back injury.

1:56 p.m. — Caller reporting her vehicle was hit by a plow last night, Tremont Street.

2:22 p.m. — 911 caller reporting elder abuse, South Main Street.

3:08 p.m. — Caller reporting a car parked on the side of the road covered in snow and has been there all night, D Street. Stating the plows have to keep going around it. Car was out of the way of plows, no issues.

3:55 p.m. — Caller reporting drugs found in the bathroom, Brookside Road. Retrieved and disposed of items.

4:02 p.m. — 911 caller reporting a motor vehicle accident at the intersection, Chestnut Hill Avenue and Main Street. Stated the party in the other vehicle couldn’t open their door and there are fluids leaking. Officer requesting Dale’s. Officer requesting DPW to sand the intersection.

6:23 p.m. — Officer checking a business, Exchange Street. All doors blocked in by snow.

7:13 p.m. — Caller reporting odor of propane, Chestnut Hill Avenue. Reporting party was advised to get out of the house until FD arrives.

7:16 p.m. — 911 caller reporting a motor vehicle accident, Lenox Street. Officer requesting Dale’s to winch out a vehicle and then for a tow. Heavy damage to both vehicles.

7:40 p.m. — Cumberland Farms calling to report there is a vehicle parked where they get their deliveries, Main Street. Officer made contact with the owner and it will be removed. Advised owner of complaint.

9:44 p.m. — Call on the business line with male party yelling at another party to get out of his house, but wouldn’t talk and then hung up, Ridge Avenue. Won’t answer a call back. Both male parties intoxicated. Reporting party wanted other male out of his apartment. Officer transported male home to his mother.

10:07 p.m. — Barking dog complaint, South Athol Road. No dogs heard barking in the area.

11:30 p.m. — 911 call for a 31-year-old male hallucinating on acid and wants a voluntary evaluation, Main Street. Assisted AFD. Transported to hospital.

11:50 p.m. — Caller reporting a silver Hummer VH2 running for last 45 minutes with male party sitting in vehicle, High Street. Male party was advised of the complaint and he was sent on way.

Friday, Dec. 18

12:27 a.m. — Caller reporting excessive smoke coming from chimney and strong gas smell, Morton Meadows. Engine 4 states to contact housing authority/maintenance for delayed ignition. Furnace has been shut off in building 1 units 1-6. Maintenance notified. Engine 4 states CO levels cleared. Assisted AFD.

3:52 a.m. — Probation requesting officer make contact with male party to charge device and have him call them, Main Street. Male party refused to open the door, but stated he would notify about contacting probation. Male party stated he didn’t want the phone number to probation.

6:45 a.m. — Engine 4 responding for CO detector sounding, Winthrop Street.

7:14 a.m. — 911 caller reporting a motor vehicle accident, Woodlawn Road. Male party was driving home when his vehicle lost control in the slush on the roadway. Vehicle crossed the traffic lane and into a tree on the opposite side of the road. Minor front driver’s side damage. Jim’s towed vehicle from the scene.

8:10 a.m. — Caller requesting to speak to DPW regarding snow plow issue, Main Street.

10:13 a.m. — Engine 4 responding for possible CO, Vine Street.

10:28 a.m. — 911 caller requesting an ambulance for a 54-year-old and a 70-year-old with weakness, Hamlet Street. Transported to hospital.

11:22 a.m. — Caller reporting someone called him claiming to be “Athol Police” looking for a donation, South Main Street.

12:04 p.m. — Caller requesting police response, Sanders Street.

1:13 p.m. — Party in lobby wants to speak to an officer regarding a sam, Brattle Street. Reporting party has already contacted unemployment regarding matter.

1:31 p.m. — 911 caller reporting a motor vehicle accident, Pinedale Road. Officer requesting DPW for tree down. Officer requesting FD and tow. Dale’s on scene.

2:04 p.m. — 911 caller reporting a suspicious person, Park Street. Unknown subject entered a common porch and left.

2:31 p.m. — Report of elder abuse, Exchange Street.

2:56 p.m. — Anonymous caller reporting a wire down in the area, Partridgeville Road. Wire moved to the side of roadway. Spectrum has been contacted.

4:49 p.m. — Caller reporting a verbal argument between herself and her tenants, Lake Ellis Road. Parties arguing over rent that was not paid in full amount. Parties separated and advised it was a civil issue.

5:20 p.m. — Caller reporting sidewalks that are not shoveled, Main Street.

5:55 p.m. — Caller reporting there are cars parking where it is unsafe, Main Street. No traffic issues present.

6:08 p.m. — 911 call for the CO detector going off, South Street.

10:29 p.m. — Caller reporting there is a puppy that has been outside for hours and sounds like it is suffering, Pinedale Avenue. Reporting party called back and reported the dog was brought inside by neighbors. Officer checked area, no signs of any puppies in distress.

10:38 p.m. — Caller reporting that she is in her car and there are people partying in the parking lot, Main Street. Parties just got out of their vehicles. All was well.

10:50 p.m. — Caller reporting seven teenagers kicking over a sign at the library, Main Street. Officer checked signs, nothing damaged or knocked over. Encountered youths in library parking lot throwing snowballs at signs and each other. They were advised of complaint and sent on their way.

Saturday, Dec. 19

12:22 a.m. — Officer out with occupied vehicle, Main Street. Male party parked his vehicle in the parking lot. Checked the area, clear of any issues.

2:05 a.m. — Caller reporting excessive smoke coming from chimney and strong smell of gas, Morton Meadows. Maintenance notified. Engine 4 states level 300 CO in boiler room and black smoke coming out of chimney. Engine 4 informed management of building issues in boiler room, need immediate response for freezing temperatures boiler will explode.

6:14 p.m. — Caller reporting two large black dogs running around in the area, Lake Street. Negative contact.

6:41 p.m. — Caller reporting intoxicated male party, Crescent Street. Located male party at Silver Lake and Crescent streets. Stated he lived in “that” house as he pointed to a residence. Followed him as he continuously swore at officers.

10:36 p.m. — Caller reporting dog out barking in the cold, Riverbend Street. Officer advised.

10:40 p.m. — 911 call from an unresponsive 2-year-old male having a seizure, on and off breathing, New Sherborn Road. Transported to hospital.
