ORANGE — Don Flye of Petersham entered his 1917 Ford Speedster in the Bob Harris, Jr. Memorial Harvest Car Show at the Orange Municipal Airport recently.
Flye was joined by 15-year-old Jewelianna Vaillancourt of Phillipston and both dressed in period costume to add to the spirit of the day.
Flye has owned the Speedster for two years, has done a little work on it himself, and said he enjoys showing it at the North Quabbin Cruisers’ Wednesday “Cruise Nights” throughout the summer, during the WWI History days and at other functions.
The Vaillancourts keep horses on his property. He said, “She (Jewelianna) asked if I needed any help.” With permission from her mother, Shawn Vaillancourt, the teenager donned a bright red Flapper dress and accompanied Flye, who got out an old pair of suspenders to complete the 1900s presentation.
Flye said that there were more than 300 cars at the show. “So many cars,” he said, noting his vehicle didn’t actually stand out among the crowd. “More people noticed my car when I pull in for gas,” he chuckled.
