ATHOL — A pedestrian struck while in a crosswalk on Tower Road on Monday has died from her injuries, according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

First responders were dispatched to the area of 147 Tower Road near Market Basket in Athol on Monday at approximately 3:20 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel located a 75-year-old female pedestrian suffering from serious injuries. The woman was transported via LifeFlight to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester. She died from her injuries on Tuesday, according to the DA’s office.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the crash occurred in a crosswalk outside the grocery store. The 49-year-old female operator of the vehicle involved in the crash remained at the scene, according to the DA’s office.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The crash remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Athol Police Department.
